Speak Unit 10: Life on other planets
In this unit, you will practice speaking skills about the existence of life on other planets such as the moon or Mars, focusing on vocabulary usage, asking questions, and expressing personal opinions. Below is a suggested answer to the exercises in the textbook:
a) Guessing and matching drawings:
Nam: What do the drawings say, Hung?
Hung: There might be water on Mars.
Nam: And what about those black sparkling spots on the right corner?
Hung: Well, they might be traces of gemstones. There may be a lot of precious stones on Mars.
b) Making up similar dialogues about the drawings:
Conversation 1
Lan: What do the drawings say, Nga?
Nga: There might be minerals on Mars.
Lan: And what about those dark shapes on the left corner?
Nga: Well, they might be signs of gas. There may be some plants on Mars.
Conversation 2
Thang: What do the drawings say, Kien?
Kien: There might be fuels on Mars.
Thang: And what about those circles in the middle?
Kien: Well, they might be traces of microorganisms, there may be little creatures on Mars.
c) Talking with a partner about life on other planets:
A: I think people can live on the moon in the future. On the moon, there might be water, plants, and minerals, etc. How about you? Do you think so?
B: I don't think so. People have left footprints on the moon for a long time. If there were such things on it, we would be living there right now. But I do think that one day we may live on Mars or work there.
A: Oh, that might be true. There are lots of scientific studies conducted about life on Mars.
B: Yes, that's the reason. How about the other planets?
A: There might be aliens on them. There is a lot of evidence about this.
B: I think so too.
