# Women's Achievements: Unit 11 - D. Vietnamese Women's Accomplishments in History

The newsletter discusses the significant role that women have played in the history of Vietnam. It highlights the achievements of three remarkable Vietnamese women who have made significant contributions to the country.

Firstly, the Trưng sisters, known as Hai Bà Trưng in Vietnamese, are celebrated for their bravery and leadership in fighting against foreign invaders in 40 A.D. They not only fought for the freedom of their country but also ruled it for three years after their victory. As the first female rulers in Vietnamese history, their accomplishments are truly inspiring, especially considering the limited access to education and politics for Vietnamese women at that time.

Another notable figure is Sương Nguyệt Anh, who excelled in literature from a young age and later became the editor-in-chief of Nữ Giới Chung, the first women's newspaper in Sài Gòn in 1918. As the first female editor in Vietnam, she made significant contributions to the press, feminism, and poetry of the country.

Finally, Điềm Phùng Thị, a pioneering dentist and sculptor, graduated from Hà Nội Medical University in 1946 and later obtained a PhD in dentistry in France. She gained international recognition for her artwork depicting the people of Vietnam and became the first female Vietnamese member of the European Academy of Arts and Sciences.

These women's achievements demonstrate the resilience, talent, and determination of Vietnamese women throughout history. Their stories serve as a powerful reminder of the important contributions that women have made and continue to make in various fields and professions. Women can indeed be as successful as men in any field, given equal opportunities and recognition for their talents and abilities.
