Phương pháp chuyển câu từ indirect speech sang direct speech:
- Đối với câu trực tiếp có động từ trực tiếp nói (ask, say, tell, admit, agree, etc.): thay đổi thời của động từ, chuyển dấu ngoặc kép thành dấu nháy đơn, đổi lại ngôi đại từ và chuyển giới từ "to" thành "that" (nếu có).
- Đối với các câu hỏi có động từ trò chuyện ở dạng "Yes/no question" hoặc "Wh-question": chuyển từ câu hỏi trực tiếp thành câu gián tiếp bằng cách đưa từ hỏi về sau động từ trò chuyện và thêm giới từ "if/whether" (nếu câu hỏi ở dạng yes/no question) hoặc giữ nguyên câu hỏi (nếu câu hỏi ở dạng Wh-question).
- Đối với các câu hỏi với "imperatives" (mệnh lệnh): chuyển gián tiếp thành một yêu cầu bằng cách sử dụng động từ chỉ yêu cầu (ask, tell, order, etc.) và bôi đen từ "please".
